Rough Nights

I haven't posted in a while bacause we've had some rough nights here lately. Mei seems to be going through a little bit of anxiety, so we've been up with her at night. We moved her crib into our room and are hoping that this will help. Please be praying for her and for us. We really need wisdom in how to get her past this bump.

You are in our prayers. I wish I had some words of wisdom to offer. This sounds odd, but a huge number of members of the June '05 DTC group swear by that Fisher Price aquarium for the crib. It didn't work for all of them, but it did for a large number.

I think that she has moved past the initial excited "...I may be on a vacation phase" and into the ...."oh my life has actually changed phase." She may even be longing to see an old familiar face or hear a Chinese word spoken to her. If you have an Asian friend, perhaps he/she could stop by for a visit and play with her a bit?? It might give her some sense of familiarity/comfort?? She will get through this with your continued love and support. She is learning a new way of life.

Our common friend, Staci Worth, shared your blog with me after I told her that my husband and I are considering adopting a daughter from China in the future (in a couple of years). I used to live in Albany and my parents live there now. My daughter and I will be in town the last week of March visiting family. I would love to meet you and Mei some time and discuss your adoption experience.
My email address is kdiaz_pa@earthlink.net
Mei is absolutely beautiful!! Sorry you guys are having a rough time of it now but I am sure that she will work her way through this.
God bless,

I was thinking along the same lines as 'anonoymous". She's maybe finally grieving in her own way...just think, her brain is re-wiring itself from Chinese to English and you know that must wear her out just trying to absorb and rework herself.Take her to Hong Kong Cafe and let Mei (the owner..she is a GREAT lady!) talk to her maybe? Email me your phone number when you get a chance...I had a question when you get a chance!!

Hi Jen,
Sorry to hear that little Mei is having anxiety. You know, as soon as we hit the 6-week mark, I noticed that our daughter became much more clingy and wanted to be held more often than before. I think that things are just starting to sink in for them, like anonymous said, and they are just having to process what it all means. The agency that we did our homestudy through offers a support program for attachment/adjustment issues. Perhaps your agency offers a similar program. I'll be praying for you guys.

Our social worker told us the waking up in the night can be just them checking on us to make sure we are there and suggested if that happened to move her into our room too. We haven't had to do that thank God, but my prayers are with you guys! Can't wait for a reunion!
